Math Snacks Video 3.0

The Math Snacks videos offer a versatile resource for both classroom and mobile learning environments, enabling students to engage with mathematical concepts such as the number line, ratios, rates, and proportions without requiring an internet connection. These animations serve as engaging introductions to key topics through storytelling and creative scenarios.

Titles include:

• Bad Date: Exploring the concept of ratios in the context of finding true love.
• Overruled! Highlighting the importance of unit conversion amid a story of conflict between kingdoms.
• Atlantean Dodgeball: A scenario where ratios come into play in an energetic game setting.
• Scale Ella: Featuring a protagonist who employs scale factors to outwit an antagonist, illustrating geometric concepts.
• Number Rights: A narrative that emphasizes the significance of understanding number properties and rights.
• Ratey the Math Cat: Showcasing daily applications of rates and proportions through the antics of a curious feline character.

Additional teaching supports are available at mathsnacks.org, designed to enhance instruction and student understanding:

• Companion "Teaching With" videos demonstrate how educators can incorporate each animation into their lessons effectively.

The Math Snacks series is designed for integration within existing curricula for grades 4 through 8. Several animations encompass multiple content areas, offering flexibility across various lessons and grade levels. All materials are aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM) and address Mathematical Practices when used as intended.

Developed by educators, researchers, and animators at the Learning Games Lab at New Mexico State University, these resources are grounded in research-based design principles. The Learning Games Lab produces educational media that undergoes extensive testing and incorporates feedback from learners, teachers, and experts in the field.
